Many are aware that Carlsbad is home to a number of premier athletic events, and one of them, the Carlsbad 5000, is considered the world’s fastest 5K run. This internationally known and popular race will be held April 2nd in Carlsbad, the 32nd  year, with a number of events also on April 1st !

There is still time to register for the Carlsbad 5000 and other races, part of an elite collection of marathons and triathlons held in Carlsbad each year, and a signature event in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series with a number of different events around the country.

The Carlsbad 5000 weekend is filled with festivities, with a Junior races on Saturday (1 mile and ½ races for various ages, along with the Toddler Trot and Diaper Dash). Sunday brings multiple separate races for adults including the big one.

The 2017 Carlsbad 5000 will also include Health and Fitness expo, held both days at the parking lots on Roosevelt Street between Grand and Carlsbad Village Drive in Carlsbad Village. The Expo, plus live music featuring Betamaxx, Hullabaloo at the finish line for the junior races, and plenty of food sets the stage for another fun-filled weekend along the Carlsbad coast. Health and Fitness Expo hours are 7 am – 1 pm on Saturday, and 7 am – 1 pm on Sunday.

You can expect plenty of participants and spectators, so plan to arrive early to find parking. And as with other Carlsbad races, there will be a number of road closures.
