Kindness Meters in Carlsbad – Kindness Matters
It started with an idea about how to keep the Carlsbad sign in Carlsbad Village lit all night long but without being paid by Carlsbad taxpayers...although isn't the city supported by the taxpayers?
The end result was 2 Kindness Meters, solar-powered meters adjacent to the sign where residents or visitor can contribute a quarter (for 1 hour of light) or far more via credit card. Money will keep the sign lit during the night.
The kindness idea has spread and there are now 8 Kindness Meters in town. The meters are recognizable by a picture of Darlene the Dolphin, a logo of sorts painted by environmental artist Robert Wyland (known simply as Wyland – Wyland’s Foundation is focused on education about the importance of clean and healthy oceans).
Besides the 2 meters at the Carlsbad Sign, other meters can be found at the Discovery Center at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon off College Boulevard to benefit the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation, at the popular Tip Top Meats (the beneficiary of funds are the Carlsbad Educational Foundation and the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation), and at the Bressi Ranch Boys and Girls Club to benefit that organization.
