What's In YOUR Junk Drawer?
I suspect some of you, like me, have a junk drawer.
But maybe not, if you have compulsive neatnik tendencies. C'mon, fess up!
I'm not quite sure how mine got started in the first place, but it seems to move from house to house...growing and changing with each move. The junk drawer has a life of its own, and while I can't give you a detailed list of what's in it, I can only say it has a lot of junk AND I know where to go to find it.
I suppose early on I felt quilty about my junk drawer and wouldn't admit to having one. But that changed over time. In some ways, the junk drawer is a badge of homeownership.
And the mystery about the junk drawer is that if I can't find something I am looking for, inevitably it's in the junk drawer. Somewhere.
I know other folks have them because they've told me so. When a guest or family member asks if I have X, and I say look in the junk drawer (pointing out where it resides), they know exactly what I mean and don't seem in the least bothered by the fact that one exists.
The junk drawer can actually be a rather scary place, since many things go in it but don't come out. Sort of a black hole of junk.
And the thought of dismantling it, to organize all the junk in some way, is rather disturbing. Which of course never happens.
Having a junk drawer can be very empowering.
I AM the master of my junk.
So the junk drawer lives on, and despite it's rather chaotic nature, there's something very comforting about it.
If I can't find something, I know where it is.
And if I can't find a place to put that certain something, the junk drawer immediately becomes the appropriate repository and I no longer have to think about it. As they say, everything in its place!
My junk drawer, at the moment, is in a box, so I can't offer you a photo. But let me reassure you it's there. And I don't know how life would go on without it.
So I wonder.
Do YOU have a junk drawer?
Is it a secret or out of the closet?
Are you daring enough to share a photo? Or do you prefer to keep it private?
Perhaps I should take a photo of my junk box.
