I Wanna Order a Pizza!!

Those were the words I heard when I answered my cell while out previewing properties this afternoon.
Of course my immediate reaction was this was wrong number, so I said so. BUT I also asked what number they were trying to reach. Not just because I wanted to be polite, but I have learned something about long tail searches. And I knew.
The caller responded that she was calling WINE STEALS...a very cool wine bar near the beach in Cardiff, a beachside town just a few miles south of me.
Coincidentally Wine Steals was the subject of a Localism post last year from my visit with good friends (and, I might add, where Nevin Williams and I also enjoyed a great conversation last summer).
It was obvious she found MY post by doing a search for a place she knew...Wine Steals. I'm not sure what she actually searched for, but rather than THEIR website showing up, my blog article on AR came up and for whatever reason it grabbed her attention. And so she called the number she saw. Mine
We had a good laugh once I explained how she got to me.
But it made it very clear, as it should be to you, that writing long tail articles CAN get folks to call. And this happens all the time.
Will they all be calling about real estate? Heck no. But you never know when someone will do a search and find their way to your blog and your contact information. And you may have an opportunity to be helpful.
For the small amount of time I spent on writing and taking a few photos (plus enjoying the place myself), it was time well spent. Google is alive and well.
And MY article comes up on Google higher than the website of the business itself, or at least it attracted the caller's attention.
And in writing this type of article I become more knowledgeable about my local community, to better assist folks moving to the area. Plus capturing their attention in the SERPs.
So the question is...
are YOU writing long tail articles that have less competition on the search engines and which can generate calls?
Need to know more?
Well...here's a shameless plug for AR RainCamp (yep, been there, done that in LA and will DO IT AGAIN). There are several coming up. Stop by the Raincamp site to learn more about what YOU will learn at RainCamp in Portland, San Diego, Orlando and elsewhere.
Maybe I'll call her back in a few days and offer to deliver a pizza from Wine Steals. Do you think she'll remember me once I don? You bet.
