Our Southern California Anniversary
Today is a momentous anniversary.
Granted it's not significant like a wedding anniversary.
And one might argue some milestones on AR are more sigifnicant.
Regardless, March 23 is significant - we closed escrow on our home in Carlsbad on this date 6 years ago in our move from Boston to the West Coast. We didn't move in for almost a month due to selling our place in Cambridge, referring on my real estate business, getting some work done in our new home while vacant, and so on.
Having been through a significant relocation (1 of 4) and working with a local agent to find our home, working through the transaction remotely (from Boston and the Caribbean - after we had the acceptance we did not see the home again til move-in day), getting accustomed to CA real estate paperwork , getting remodeling successfully accomplished from a distance (again, with the help of our agent), and just dealing with all the issues of buying/selling and moving across country with animals has helped me better appreciate the issues that homeowners deal with when they move, especially over a long distance.
On top of multiple other moves over the years, I know I DO understand what it's like to relocate a significant distance, from a REALTOR's as well as a homeowner's perspective. Iam still of the belief that if you haven't done it you do not truly know what it's like.
I don't miss the snow...anyone who knows me is well aware of my feelings about Boston winters.
And the irony of negotiating the contract on our new home in late February 2005 on the day that Cambridge, MA had 33 inches of snow (see the photo above) reaffirmed my feelings that this was the right move.
We were thankfully in California for the negotiations on that momentous day!
Our Southern California anniversiary is a personal moment. But I sure learned a lot during the process and in my time here.
