How to Establish a Sense of Community in Your New Home – Some Relocation Advice
Many buyers relocate to new homes in communities unfamiliar to them.
They may not know anyone living there or much about the neighborhood, and the larger community may feel strange. The reasons behind the move to the new home vary widely, but the issue for many having made the move is the same – how do I get to know other people and establish a sense of community in my new home?

Community groups like the Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Association (DEMA) offer opportunities for volunteers to get involved in community activities (sponsoring local fairs, festivals, art events and much more).
You can join the local PTA or a local church and become involved in their activities. The local paper also often announces meetings of various local groups and community organizations.
Interested in art? The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts offers the chance to get involved with the local art activities and fund raising and meet some great people along the way.
Local communities may offer clubs for newcomers. There is a Carlsbad Newcomers Group with monthly gatherings for example. Here is a large list of newcomers’ clubs in LA, Orange and San Diego counties, Moms’ Groups, Dads’ Organizations, Women’s Groups and more.
Invite the neighbors in for a casual get-acquainted open house. And

Those working for companies or who operate their own businesses should investigate the Chamber of Commerce for the larger community. Chambers usually have social, educational and networking events and other ways to meet other business people. Some Chambers, like the Carlsbad Chamber, are quite large and very active in the community
For seniors, many communities have a senior center offering meals, activities trips, social events and a host of services. It could be a quick way to get to know other seniors in the area. The Carlsbad Senior Center is close to the downtown Carlsbad Village area.
Check with your neighbors to see if there are local neighborhood events - it's common in some HOAs for folks to have group events, picnics, block parties, progressive dinners, and garage sales during the year.
