I wonder what it would be like without technology?
It's unfathomable, isn't it?
I mean think about it!
As I sit here, early in the morning getting ready to head out to catch a flight back to the West Coast, again, surrounded by cords, battery chargers, 2 cell phones, and my laptop, it hit me.
What would I do without technology?
FEWER BEEPS, BUZZES, RINGS
First of all, think about how much quieter it would be. Cell phones have got to be one of the noisiest toys around, between calls, voice mail messages and text messages, plus people talking on them in loud voices, oblivious to who is having to listen to them. And you hear one of the 40,000+ ringtones practically everywhere you go, 24/7. Who makes up all that stuff anyhow?
EMPTY ELECTRICAL RECEPTACLES
Here's a biggie. Who hasn't frantically searched for an empty receptacle to plug in that battery charger for the cell phone or laptop before it died while traveling? Or run for that last seat at the conference along the wall by an outlet before someone else grabbed it so your laptop and phone wouldn't die before you did of boredom.
MORE MONEY TO SPEND
Just think about how much money you spend on technology! Do you know? Really? There are the big ticket items, like laptops and iPads. And cell phones. And numerous other gadgets. And iPhone apps. And websites, and URLs. The list is endless, and I could buy a new car and take a trip around the world for what I spend on technology every year. Well, that may be a slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean.
LESS STRESS, FRUSTRATION AND AGGRAVATION
Let's face it, technology, despite claims it makes like easier, is pretty darn stressful. It's mostly because of all the times it doesn't do what it is supposed to do when I want it to do it, which is most of the time. Between dropped calls and crappy cell phone coverage, laptops that crash, websites that don't load, inordinate amounts of spam, equipment that is obsolete before you get it out of the box, viruses, and other weird stuff that certainly only exists to cause aggravation and provide job security to IT professionals, I know my blood pressure would be normal if I didn't have to deal with this nonsense. And all those swear words I picked up in high school and college would soon be forgotten.
FEWER AR POSTS AND POINTS
Do you realize how many articles are written here about technology or gripes about it? New apps for the iPhone...new website providers...new lead generators...new automating products and services...new gadgets. The list goes on and on. Oh, and all the articles people write COMPLAINING about others' use or non-use of technology, and who's spying on who or violating so and so's privacy, and sharing annoying photos (guess who?!). Whew! Imagine all those unawarded ActiveRain points.
Woah - even AR wouldn't exist. Imagine!
Well, gotta go. Just got a TM my flight is boarding soon so have to pack up all these cords and gadgets. Sure hope they have Wifi on the plane. It's a 5+ hour flight. I'll go nuts without technology for that long.
