Preparing for the Move in Your Relocation
There is lots of preparation you will need to do when relocating, and one primary task is the actual preparation for your move (see video at bottom of page).
You will need to arrange for movers (see my prior article on video on Questions to Ask Your Movers), of course, but you need to coordinate your personal move out of your house and to your new location, too.
Consider when you have to be out of your house and when your household goods are leaving to plan when you leave but also when to arrive at the new destination. Keep in mind this can take a number of days! The time between move-out and move-in when I moved to California was 8 days!
Decide on how you are going to get to your new location, e.g., air, car, train. If you are working with a relocation package find out what they will pay for (type of transportation, how much, hotel, food, temporary lodging) before you get started.
If you are flying you will need to make your reservations in plenty of time to coordinate with your household goods. The relocation company may have some requirements (e.g., 2-week advance purchase).
And make sure you plan well if you are relocating with pets and they will be flying. Kids, too.
If you are driving, consider planning out your route in advance so you know how far you will drive each day and where you will stay. This will be even more important if you need pet-friendly hotels. You might decide to make it a fun trip and visit touristy stuff along the way, and perhaps also visit friends or family along the route. Find out when the moving van will arrive so you can arrange to be there in time, if that’s necessary.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me at (76) 840-1360 so we can discuss your personal relocation needs, concerns, and questions. I have relocated 4 times myself and am happy to help from start to finish with your relocation here to SoCal, or with a move out of this area.
If you are moving someplace other than SoCal, I can still assist you. I know a great network of highly qualified agents around the country and can help refer you to the right person to help find your new home and/or sell your current one.
Here are the prior articles (with videos) in this series in case you missed them.
You can view just the videos without the articles on my YouTube Channel Relocation Tips and Advice Playlist. The videos are each 2 or minutes or less.
