The big day is here! You have searched for a home remotely, had a house hunting trip and identified the place you want, put in an offer, worked through the transaction from afar, and now are ready to go.
Here is the last in the series of Carlsbad Relocation Tips
1. The movers have finished packing and the truck is loaded. For many people, seeing their entire "life" and all their possessions in boxes is a bit disconcerting. But it's time to say goodbye and move to your new home in your new location. Presumably you have made you travel arrangements, whether you are flying or driving, but if not check out Part 6 below.
2. Make sure your plan your arrival in your new home to coordinate with the arrival of your household goods, or plan for a night in a hotel or two.
3. Plan ahead and make arrangements to pick up the keys for your new home or have your agent meet you there.
4. If you did not set up your new utilities now is the time to do so, so when you move in your have gas, electric and perhaps a phone. Your agent likely talked with you about this when going through escrow on your new home. And of course you want to turn off the utilities in your old home at the time the deed is transferred to the new owners, unless other arrangements have been made.
5. Being organized so your big day will go smoothly is important. Here are some tips for getting organized for that big move. You don't want to forget about leaving your current home is great shape for the new owners, including cleaning out the fridge (whether you leave it or take it with you).
6. You will want to think ahead about the move into your new home. Here are some suggestions for making THAT Day a smooth one.
Another tip - label each of the rooms so movers will have an easier time when moving stuff from the van to your home. That will minimize having to move stuff a second time. And I would make sure you arrange with them to set up beds and place some furniture so your first night will not be too crazy.

Part 1 - Finding Your REALTOR:
You will need to contact 2 or 3 movers to obtain estimates of moving costs so you can make the best selection.
ARE YOU GOING TO DRIVE OR FLY? Depending on how far you are going, who is going, and how much time you have, you may decide to drive to take in the scenery. Since a truck traveling from the Right Coast to the Left Coast can take a week or more, you may decide that driving is better rather than staying in a hotel in your new city. If so, you will need to make travel plans (hotels, plan your route) and get your car(s) checked over. If you are flying, make your reservations in plenty of time, and keep in mind the pets if they are flying too, since airlines can have some pretty complex restrictions.
