Enjoy the California Wine Festival in Carlsbad
June 21 and 22
Tomorrow is the first day of summer…Happy Summer 2019!
And if you are a wine lover and foodie it’s a great opportunity to taste some fine wines and enjoy some special foods from our state.
The California Wine Festival will take place Friday and Saturday, June 21 and 22, at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in South Carlsbad (note – the California Wine Festival is actually a series, with upcoming events in Dana Point, Santa Barbara and Huntington Beach).
I attended a food and wine event at the Resort a few years ago and the setting is wonderful. What a great way to start off your summer with wine, food and a luxurious ambiance, accompanied by live music, ocean views and coastal breezes. Perhaps our June Gloom will abate, but it shouldn’t dampen your spirits!
On Friday you can enjoy the Sunset Rare and Reserve Wine Tasting in the Palm Courtyard (I’ve been to events there…it’s beautiful!) from 6:30 – 9 pm.
On Saturday partake in the Beachside Wine Festival on the Tennis Lawn (OK, it’s not REALLY beachside but you could pretend) from 1 – 4 pm (VIPS can enter the Pavilion at noon).
There’s a long list of participating wineries, as one would hope and expect, pouring reds and white – Peachy Canyon, Barlow Vineyards, Gloria Ferrer, Kessler-Haak, Wilson Creek, Pegasus, Miner, San Antonio, and Navarro, among others.
Of course if there’s wine you need to have food to enjoy, and you’ll find an impressive selection of food vendors from Carlsbad and nearby at both events – Vivace (the signature restaurant at the Park Hyatt), Gregorio’s, Barrel Republic, Bluewater Grill, Chandler’s, Luna Grill, The Argyle (all from Carlsbad), just a partial list.
Here’s a complete list food purveyors for the foodies.
You can buy tickets here (including designated driver tix) for either event or both, including the VIP Pavilion. Tickets range from $35 to $175 plus tax. And there’s a promotional code from our local paper, The Coast News, for $15 off – it’s “Coastnews” (no surprise). It’s getting late so don’t wait; some tickets are expected to sell out.
The Park Hyatt Aviara Resort is off Aviara Parkway, at 7100 Aviara Resort Drive, Carlsbad 92011. You should expect crowds so plan to arrive early if you can, and it may take a while to get into the resort and park if my past experience holds true.
