The Great Kindness Challenge 2018 in Carlsbad and Beyond

The Great Kindness Challenge 2018

It's time again for the GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE at Hope Elementary School (Calavera Hills, near where I live) and thousands of schools around the country, as well as in 91 other countries.

Being kind is a pretty good idea anytime for all of us, isn't it?

This year’s Great Kindness Challenge started today and runs all week through January 26th.

Did you know that the Great Kindness Challenge actually started here in Carlsbad?

Great Kindnes Challenge sign in CarlsbadCarlsbad resident Jill McManigal, co-founder and Executive Director of the non-profit, Kids for Peace, started the Challenge with her 2 kids. Her program was brought to 3 schools in Carlsbad back in 2012, and the annual Great Kindness Challenge has grown dramatically from there.

Check out this ABC News report from 2017 on the Great Kindness Challenge.

The Great Kindness Challenge website stats say it all - over 10 million students, 91 countries, 15,000 schools, and more than 500 millions acts of kindness in 2017!

The Great Kindness Challenge is based on a checklist of 50 different acts of kindness that kids can do during the week, some easier than others...like smiling at 25 people. Hope Elementary here in the Calavera Hills area of Carlsbad was one of the first schools to take on this wonderful challenge.

There is also a family edition of the Great Kindness Challenge.

Shouldn’t we all work on this all year long??
