Empty beach chairs in Carlsbad

The Carlsbad beaches are always packed on the 4th of July and today  was no exception. We were out early to avoid some crowds, had a big breakfast at Cafe Elysa (our fave breakfast place in the Village) then went for a long walk along the boardwalk which was already crowded with walkers, runners, strollers and dogs!

Lots of visitors and residents had gotten out very early to place their chairs, blankets, umbrellas and tents at the high tide line, lined up along the beach, to get the best ocean views before the crowds arrived...then went off to do other things. By 9 am most of the beach was packed at the water's edge (which you can't tell from this photo), and no doubt by midday there will be many more rows of beachgoers. Parking was already a major chore in town.

Thankfully we are not experiencing the heat wave blanketing so much of the country although it's supposed to hit 91 degrees Saturday morning which is a heat wave for us at the beach! That will feel cool to those back East and in the Northeast!!

Happy Independence Day!
