I had some errands to run in Carlsbad Village late yesterday afternoon, mostly personal stuff, and it was immediately obvious that the holiday crowds were out and about as we head into the summer season. And it was great weather for a 2-mile walk along the beach.
The beach was more crowded, even on a chilly, breezy but sunny day, than I've seen it since last summer.
The life guard trucks and life guard stations were back in position on the beaches and porta-potties were placed strategically to handle the crowds.
And the volley ball players were out.
Traffic was heavier and the parking was much more of a challenge by the beach as well as in town (thank goodness all the parking in Carlsbad Village is free!).
Lots of people were out walking along the "boardwalk" and there were plenty of dogs.
It was a great day for sailing and there were more sailboats out at sea than I've seen for a long time. I counted at least 30 strung out for probably for a half mile heading north. Maybe it was some sort of sailing event for the holiday that I wasn't aware of.
Interestingly no one was out in this huge beach chair at one of the ocean-view homes along the Coast Road.
The ground squirrels were out in abundance, providing entertainment for the dogs, and enjoying the increased food opportunities from the tourists!
And the bougainvillea was out...but then it always is!
