In these tough economic times there are many folks who need assistance for housing, food, health services and more.
Here in San Diego the North County Community Services Organization provides a number of services to support area residents, including child development programs (Oceanside, Vista, Escondido), a food bank, and social services including winter shelters. They hold several fund raising events throughout the year to raise money and collects donations of food. NCCS provides food to over 15,000 residents in North County every month.
We held an event at our home last night and ordered a barrel to be used for collecting food donations - it worked like a charm with virtually a full barrel of items we can donate to the food bank. The event was a collection of 8 women small business owners who have a variety of products and services, open to invitees and walk-ins.
Vendors included Something Old Linens (pillows, mini art quilts, tooth fairy pillows, and LOVE message pillows made from vintages linens and lace), N. Bahr Designs (handbags, scarves, belts), Blue Cat Designs (hand-made jewelry and accessories), The Galvanic Spa, Connee J Designs (a wide range of hand-crafted artisan jewelry, French crystal sun catchers, pet jewelry, jewelry accessories), Sweet Stuff (skin care products), hand painted kids clothing by Jerri, and tea readings by Lady Jannine.
Chef Pam, an area personal chef, demonstrated how to make Thai vegetable rolls.
