A Visit to the Carlsbad Farmers Market in Carlsbad Village
The Carlsbad Farmers Market in Carlsbad Village is a terrific place to visit for fresh produce, flowers and food.
We stopped in today to buy much of what we needed for the small dinner party we are having tonight, and we were not disappointed with the selection - getting there when they first open works best.
The Carlsbad Farmers Market is smaller than some other towns but offers a pretty good selection from local growers, along with other vendors - honey, seafood, fudge, tamales, and more.
One advantage is that they are there twice per week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1 until 5, although you will find places set up and ready to go before then.
The Carlsbad Farmers Market is a terrific visual experience, with lots of opportunities to try foods (hummus, fudge, tamales), fruits, and some produce (the avocados today were great - bought some for the grill).
It's nice to be able to buy directly from some of the local farms, and good to see they are pesticide free (not true of stuff in the grocery stores).
Plus we picked up some appetizers from the Flavors of East Africa vendor (and of course had to try one - delicious).
If you haven't discovered the Carlsbad Farmers Market, you should. It's a fun place to shop and buy year-round, and it supports our local vendors.
You should shop around since prices vary from vendor to vendor, and don't expect that the prices will be substantially less than in some stores, but when you consider where you are getting the produce, and how much fresher it is likely to be, the Carlsbad Farmers Market is well worth it. And it's usually pesticide-free, too, NOT just organic.
