Hiking in the California Desert at the Bear Creek Trailhead in La Quinta CA
The California desert has become a list of places on our list of faves to spend time when we can.
Just 2 hours from Carlsbad and other Southern California coastal cities, the California desert cities of La Quinta, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, Rancho Mirage, Indio and Palm Springs (there are more) offer a wealth of activities, both indoor and out, throughout the year.
Yes, it gets hot (that's well over a 100, for weeks) in the summer months but right now the weather is terrific.
We went hiking (yes, that's me up on that hill!) this morning for a couple of hours at the Bear Creek Trailhead, at the foot of the Santa Rosa mountains, in La Quinta with temps in the mid 70s and it was spectacular.
There are several trail options that start at the same place, and the end of Avenida Bermudas past the dead end of Eisenhower, a couple miles south of the city of La Quinta. Trails range from easy to strenuous, and depending on your route can take a couple hours or more.
The Guadalupe Trail to Sugarloaf Cafe is a 15-mile hike for 8 hours, with an elevation rise of 5000 feet. Yikes. Someday, perhaps. Probably not. LOL

There is a small dirt parking lot of Avenida Bermudas/Calle Tecate and on the street (a residential area). There is no water, so bring your own, and no restrooms.
Enjoy - the views are spectacular.
