Carlsbad Marathon is Sunday January 23, 2011 in Carlsbad CA
The Tri-City Medical Carlsbad Marathon will take place next Sunday January 23, 2011 in Carlsbad, the site of several marathons and a triathlon each year. There will be a Half Marathon as well as a Kids Marathon Mile.
Residents and those visiting the area should be aware that a number of roads will be closed in certain areas, or at least partially (e.g., east bound lanes of Palomar Airport Road from El Camino to the Coast Road) on or near the Carlsbad Marathon course.
One of the neat things about the Carlsbad Marathon is that a significant portion of the course is along historic Route 101/the Coast Road a.k.a. Carlsbad Boulevard (take a drive with me along historic Route 101 - video). And of course how many places can you run a marathon in January and not freeze your you-know-what?!
Plus the Carlsbad Marathon is a qualifying marathon for the Boston Marathon.
There will be ample opportunities to watch the runners along the course, with entertainment at the start and finish lines.
The Carlsbad Marathon is actually a weekend of events, beginning Friday January 21.
- The Health and Fitness Expo is Friday January 21 from 2 until 6 pm at the Westfield Plaza off El Camino Real in Carlsbad (just south of the 78 freeway), both the Start and Finish lines.
- The Kids Marathon Mile will be held at world famous Legoland in Carlsbad beginning at 8 am.
- The Health and Fitness Expo continues on Saturday from 10 am until 5 pm.
- Carlsbad Marathon is on Sunday January 23 beginning at 6 am.
- Half Marathon begins on Sunday at 6:30.
- Health and Fitness Expo from 7 am until noon
It's too late to register since the event is full, but why not stop by the Health and Fitness expo, and take a few minutes to watch the Carlsbad Marathon runners and cheer them on.
