The Royal Wedding in Cardiff:
Cardiff, California, That Is
Cardiff was in a celebratory mood yesterday, as were millions around the world, who watched the Royal Wedding yesterday, and again and again on the Internet and TV.
Cardiff had its own celebration in honor of the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Ms. Catherine Middleton.
The famous, and somewhat controversial Surfing Statue got all dressed up for the occasion, complete with crown, train and bouquet. The wedding dress was stunning, although perhaps not as beautiful as the Bride's. The Cardiff Kook, as it is called by locals because of what is said to be an incorrect surfing pose, was dubbed the "ROYAL KOOK." There is even a website about the Cardiff Kook.
The statue can be seen by everyone driving by on the Coast Highway at the light at the main road into Cardiff's downtown, garnering lots of laughs and numerous paparazzi (including yours truly).
No doubt there were some naysayers, who also have decried the status itself for a host of reasons. Nonetheless, I suspect that Cardiff, and its famous status, will become better known as the result of this testimony to one of the great wedding of the millenium.
Surely the Prince (and Princess?), a.k.a. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, will be honored.
I wonder if they surf? The waves, that is.
