Rural Mail Boxes - A Fact of Life for Many

I passed these rural mail boxes on the road through the mountains to the desert today and had to stop and snap a photo. There's not much in this area except mountains, brush, a two lane road and no real signs of habitation, until you pass this small dirt road and the double row of mail boxes.
It made me think - how different lifestyles can be, depending on the choices we make on where we live, and our housing. I couldn't see any homes nearby - what I could see had to be at least a half mile, if not further, out in the hills.
And we were not close to any sort of town for many miles - no gas, no shopping, no place to eat out if one chose to do so.
The views were beautiful - big sky, rolling hills, scrub brush, lots of boulders, and a peacefulness that comes from being in a remote location far from the trappings of urban life. It's not what I would choose, but I can understand how folks could enjoy this lifestyle.
Even if they have to drive a distance to get their mail.
