It’s Oktoberfest Time Again…In Carlsbad California on October 3, 2009

We just had an Oktoberfest event in Encinitas, and now it is Carlsbad's turn.

The Carlsbad Oktoberfest is fast approaching - it's this coming Saturday October 3 in Holiday Park from 12 noon until 10 pm. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Carlsbad, the Carlsbad Oktoberfest funds benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad, the Women's Resource Center, the Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club charities and the Rotary Club of Carlsbad charities.

As one would expect, there is plenty of German music, dancing, activities for the kids, face painting, a pumpkin decorating contest, and a classic German Oktoberfest meal served from 1 - 8 pm. Tickets at $10 can be purchased at a variety of locations in advance or on the day of the event.

Folks worried about parking can park for free at the Westfield Plaza Camino Real, at the north end of El Camino Real just before the 78 freeway - a free shuttle bus is provided at 20 minute intervals beginning at 11:30 am with the last bus at 10:30 leaving Holiday Park.

Carlsbad's Art Splash Will be Here Soon - September 26 and 27, 2009

Chalk art creation at the Carlsbad Art SplashSeptember is a popular month in Carlsbad because of the weather - often our warmest month - but also for a variety of festivals and events.

Art Splash is one of the favorite, and unique, art festivals that are held in Carlsbad each year, and this year, the 7th, will be on Saturday and Sunday September 26th and 27th in the same location on Armada Drive overlooking the famed Flower Fields (which are just dirt at the moment).

Art Splash draws a big crowd every year to enjoy music and dancing, many food offerings, and of course that many artists who are there to display their works of art which include glass creations, sculpture, jewelry, paintings and so much more.

A highlight of Art Splash, which makes it rather unique, is the chalk street art competition and display. Folks can sponsor different squares, and artists, with moneys raised going to help support area art programs.

The Taste at Art Splash will also be held this year on Saturday with a good crowd expected to sample food from well over a dozen area restaurants. Tickets are $20 to attend the Taste at Art Splash, but Carlsbad's Art Splash itself is free.

If you are in the area, Carlsbad's Art Splash is definitely a great time, and the chalk art is amazing. The view over the flower fields to the ocean ain't bad either.

Hours:  10 - 6 on Saturday and 10 - 5 on Sunday.

Enjoy the tour from a couple of years ago.

It's hard to believe that another year has gone by and it's time again for the Carlsbad Street Faire.

And the quiet streets of carlsbad Village (below) will become a throng of people and booths.

Quiet streets of Carlsbad will become a throng of booths and people

The Carlsbad Street Faire takes place semi-annually (March and November) and the fall version is upon us in just 1 week. This is one of the largest outdoor street fairs in the country, and the fall weather in Carlsbad is usually perfect for shopping for those holiday gifts.

This event is sponsored by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce which will feature 2 international food courts (more than 50 booths) serving all kinds of edibles. There will be the wine and beer garden sponsored by the Rotary Club of Carlsbad, and a pancake breakfast at the railroad depot (served from 7 am until noon) sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Carlsbad.

The fair runs from 8 am until 4 pm next Sunday November 2. Complimentary shuttles will be operating from the Poinsettia Coaster Station (on Avenida Encinas) and by the Sears in the Westfield Shopping Center at El Camino Real and the 78 in northeast Carlsbad.

In next door Encinitas there will be a Safe Trick of Treat at "Pumpkin Lane" Halloween Nightfrom 5 - 8 pm. The event takes place in downtown Encinitas along Route 101, with many local merchants participating by handing out goodies of their own choosing, with lots of fun and games along the way.
