Living close to the beach is a dream for many who are buying in the Carlsbad real state market.
No wonder - it can be a pretty nice life with great beaches to enjoy all sorts of activities and wonderful weather. Living near the water, of course, comes with a price, but if you are willing to give up views n order to be else, there are actually some pretty appealing and reasonably affordable homes for sale.
Carlsbad is a popular residential, vacation and retirement community of around 95,000, blessed with being about 35 minutes from downtown San Diego and barely 2 hours south of Los Angeles, and a wealth of shopping, dining and recreational things to do...major tourist attractions like Legoland draw folks from around the world. There are waterfront homes, homes in walkable neighborhoods, golf course properties and much more.

Carlsbad Beach Villas are located about 1/5 blocks from Tamarack Beach, and while they do not offer ocean views, you are perhaps a 3 minute walk from doorstep to fabulous views, and less than 10 minutes to the sand.
This enclave of 24 townhouse homes with garage parking is about 1 mile south of Carlsbad Village on a dead end street, with minimal traffic and a sense of being in a private resort. The homes are Mediterranean/Spanish style with lush vegetation, offering 2 or 3 bedrooms, grouped in 2-unit or 3-unit configurations.
Homes do not come up for sale often here; there is a current listing for a 3 bedroom/2 bath 1626 SF townhome priced at $675,000 but there were two sales earlier in 2008 of two 2 bedroom units (in the low 1300 SF range) at $550K and $575K. If you want the beach lifestyle but are not in the market for a waterfront home, the Carlsbad Beach Villas offer a tremendous opportunity.
If you are interested in a second home near the Carlsbad beaches, or one that perhaps would work well both for personal use and to rent out for vacations, this complex is worth considering when homes are available.

Here is a photo of the views that are just about 3 minutes walk from these condos up the hilltoward the beach. There is also a hiking trail just down the hill that runs along the lagoon to enjoy the views, or perhaps do a little fishing.
