Cardiff, or more properly known as Cardiff-by-the-Sea, is a small seaside community just south of Encinitas (they have their own zip code, 92007, but technically are part of Encinitas - town government, etc.). Cardiff has a long history as a surfing community, as many do in this area, and despite many changes in recent years - shops, restaurants, new and remodeled housing - it still retains the small-town feel so many residents and visitors enjoy.

Poinsettia Heights is a small, older and popular neighborhood located on the east side of the 5 freeway off Birmingham where prices are lower. Many of the homes in this neighborhood were the first in the area (built in 1961), which formerly was land belonging to the Ecke Family of poinsettia fame. Most of the homes are single story but many have been remodeled, or could be, often to take in the ocean views. Because of the proximity to the freeway you will have some noise depending on where the home is situated, as well as with the ocean breezes.
There are 3 homes for sale in the Poinsettia Heights area of Cardiff right now, ranging in price from about $590,000 to $747,000 with 3 bedrooms and living areas from about 1100 SF to a bit over 1600 SF. A recent sale - a completely remodeled single story with no views and 1100+/- SF - was $600,000; another remodeled home with around 1500 SF sold recently for $749,000. Homes on the west side of the roads which run parallel to the ocean generally offer the best views, especially if you build up.
