A Visit to Ponte Winery in Temecula's Wine Country in Temecula, California
Temecula, California, about 45 minutes inland northeast of Carlsbad, has a fine reputation as a wine region. While it may not compare to Napa and Sonoma, there are some terrific wineries and good wines to sample and buy.
Visiting wine country is a popular activity, with Saturdays and Sundays being the busiest. \
You can expect crowds of wine enthusiasts from the region as far away as LA, and traffic can mount on the several main roads leading from the 15 freeway inland through wine country.
Wine tastings are popular, and crowded, so be prepared on the way to the wineries and in the tasting rooms.
The Temecula wineries host a variety of events during the year - weddings, jazz concerts, special celebrations at the holidays, art shows and much more. With the 15 freeway nearby, access from San Diego, La, Orange County and beyond is easy.
Ponte Winery is a favorite of mine on Rancho California Road several miles east of the freeway.
The grounds and gardens at Ponte Winery are beautiful with views of snow covered mountains. Their outdoor Smokehouse Restaurant is good, although a little on the pricey side. There is lots to look at, and purchase, in the tasting room building beside wine.
We were at Ponte Winery a week ago to see our good friend, Jim Gibson, play guitar and sing during the dinner hour at the Smokehouse Restaurant.

Another favorite is Wilson Creek Winery, further east on Rancho California Road and a beautiful winery in its own right. I have had a couple of business meetings there and their food and service is great. The afternoon I stopped by before going to Ponte they were jammed!
