La Mediterranee in Berkeley CA
We had a great meal at Le Mediterranee on College in Berkeley CA on Sunday.
We spent some time touring the area and when it came time to eat decided this was the place to go.
We were able to secure seating on the patio, after a few minutes wait, with heat lamps and views of the world passing by on foot and by car. The food was terrific, arriving soon after we ordered.
I would definitely recommend La Mediterranee without reservation, except that the service was rather lacking. It's rare that I have to ding a place for crummy service, but unfortunately La Meditarranee gets a big red X on my list, despite great food and atmosphere in a very cool part of Berkeley.
Perhaps it was an off day - other on-line reviewers were positive, while some were also pretty negative about the service. But having to wait 10 minutes with nothing happening, and then needing to visit the bar area and ask the cashier (or whoever it was) to please have someone help us after 10 minutes of just sitting there put me over the top. This place was NOT crowded, and there were plenty of staff hanging around. No excuse in my book.
La Mediterranee is probably worth a visit, given the location and the food, and since some folks have had some good service, inconsistency may be an issue depending on who is working there (or not, as the case may be). Once we got started, though, it was very efficient, thankfully.
