The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch Open March 1, 2019
The well-known, and popular, Flower Fields in Carlsbad CA will be open to the public in a little over a week on Friday March 1.
Bear in mind the Carlsbad Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch take a while to reach their peak, so don’t expect the fields to look like the photo near the bottom (or in the video!) on day 1, but it’s fun to anticipate the full beauty to come.
Check out my video from March 2015.
The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch have been a popular tourist attraction for more than 6 decades, offering 50 acres of rightly colored Ranunculas. During the year it’s fun to see the brown dirt hillside transform first to green, and then to vibrant colors, and then back again to brown dirt when the blooming season is over.
You will want to plan your time, since the Carlsbad Flower Fields are open for less than 3 months annually, traditionally opening March 1, and closing Mother’s Day which is May 12th this year.
Here’s a taste of what you can enjoy at the Flower Fields in addition to the fields themselves:
- Orchid greenhouse and a Poinsettia display
- Calendar of events including Kids Day, multiple days featuring different food trucks, musical events, arts and crafts, Girl Scout Day, flower-arranging workshops, the special Mother’s Day Celebration on Closing Day, May 12th , and more!
- School tours and programs
- An American Flag of Flowers on the south side of the fields – you can see it from Palomar Airport Road at Armada Drive by the Costco
- Demonstration garden with ornamental and edible plants
You can enjoy walking through the fields to experience the flowers close up. Or take a ride on an antique tractor wagon ($5 for adults, $3 for children aged 3 to 10) to really appreciate the beauty of Carlsbad’s beautiful Flower Fields up close, and much easier on the feet!
The Carlsbad Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch are easily visible from the I-5 Freeway – just look eastward - at the Palomar Road Exit (look for the windmill) adjacent to the Carlsbad Premium Outlets Mall.
I have to say I think the best vantage point (AND IT’S FREE!!) is looking down on the fields from Armada Drive, with the Carlsbad windmill and 180 degree views of the ocean in the distance. I run by whenever I can if I am out showing property or going and coming to Costco, and stop for a minute or two to take in the views.
You can purchase tickets on The Flower Fields website.
