Moorten Botanical Garden in Palm Springs, CA
A visit to Moorten "Desertland" Botanical Garden in Palm Springs, California is a WOW.
It's hard to believe there are so many different versions of cactus and other desert fauna, all contained in a beautiful private park (a private residence) in a residential area on the south side of Palm Springs not far from Rancho Mirage.
Surprisingly, Moorten Botanical Garden is not what you might think of as a desert setting.
There are plentiful plants and palm trees (more than 1000 varieties) and meandering paths to enjoy, along with a Cactarium (greenhouse), a collection of rare cacti and other desert plants.
The owners' private residence is in the midst - while it remains private, the views of this Spanish-style home with green lawns surrounded by beautiful gardens is a sight to behold.
Moorten Botanical Garden was established in 1938 by Patricia and Chester "Cactus Slim" Moorten as a living museum of the desert life they loved so much.
Take your time wandering through so you won't miss anything. A downloadable map is below.
