California has been in a drought situation for a long time, and it is getting worse. We knew this was coming and that it was inevitable. So, as in other San Diego communities, Carlsbad is now implementing mandatory water conservation as we are in the Level 2 ALERT stage (no longer a WATCH).

The biggie is restricting irrigation/watering of lawns to only 3 days per week from July 1 through October 1 (commercial growers and nurseries are excluded).
- Odd numbered homes will water on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday
- Even numbered homes can water on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday.
Here's a more detailed guide to the mandatory restrictions that are being imposed effective July 1, 2009.
Other programs are in place, including increased use of recycled water, water audits and rebate programs, and of course the plans for the desalination plant in Carlsbad.

Jeff
Drought can be a real problem and rebounding from lack of water time consuming. It's hard to relate lately here. It has rained so hard here it's incredible. One city by me, West Allis, got 5 inches of rain in a downpour one night. I wish I could send you some of this water.
Thanks for sharing this information with me today. I like to update myself around the country
FYI- The comment above is identical to the one they left on another blog I just read! It's just a copy and paste comment.
As for the water restrictions, I thought CA was already on water restrictions. We've only been allowed to water our lawns twice a week, for years. The days and times are even restricted. And we have to have a rain sensor on our sprinklers too, so the automatic timer won't kick in if it's raining.
And to think that my friend in Oceanside called me yesterday to tell me how proud he was of himself for fixing his broken sprinkler system...sounds like they may next on the list if they aren't already.
I wish we could give you some of our water Jeff. It has rained here 15 out of the 20 days so far in June. I an beginning to feel like a duck.
Jeff, like Bill said we have had rain all most everyday, but I would rather have that then have no rain like you guys. People might be tired of the rain around here, but we are VERY LUKY to have it.
Tom - thanks. I watch the weather often, and the contrasts from one area to another are so striking.
Lisa - I had no idea things were that strict. They probably should be more so here on an on-going basis. Oh and see my latest post .
Brian - a number of towns already have implemented restrictions.
Bill - quack quack.
George - well, me too. We likely wonit get any rain until December.
