That got you didn't it? And now you just have the read on...
It's a pretty common sight here in Southern California; folks undressing by the side of the road. Maybe it bothers you, maybe it doesn't. You may not give a hoot...which seems to be the case of many. Are you disappointed there are no pictures?

This is really for visitors and folks moving to the area, since Southern Californias already know this - the folks undressing by the side of the road are, of course, the surfers. Lest you think they are all running around the neighborhoods and major roadways with nothing on, let me reassure you that is not the case.
It seems to be more confined to men than women, who, for obvious reasons can't quite stand along the roadways topless (well they could if they wanted but it might create some problems, and become a legal matter - I'm staying away from that controversy), and perhaps also because there are so many more male surfers than females, in general. At least it appears that way.
The point of all this, of course, is to get out of one's wetsuit after a bit of surfing and into a pair of shorts or other clothes for the drive back home (the reverse is true to some extent as well).
All that's needed is a big towel, and learning the proper technique to change clothes while standing next to or behind your car along the road without exposing yourself to the neighbors or the drivers, unless, of course you choose to or are a bit daring (or careless). It's a frequent sight, along any road where you find surfers parking their cars to head to the beach - in multimillion dollar neighborhoods, along the coast road, wherever.
Get used to it.

Well, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see surfers changing into or out of wet suits by their cars, but I usually see shorts underneath their wet suits. And, they don't really need wet suits very often around here.
Jeff
I would think that would really be a nasty feeling driving home in a saturated wet suit. I'm glad at least they don't have to be getting out of a dry suit (does not let water permeate).
Jeff - that guy looks like YOU! In any event hope everyone stays safe and has lots of fun enjoying the surf... and the motorist of course keep their EYES on the road! :)
Jeff,
I think women learn the "hide and squirm" technique as babies. I remember reading about some surfers actually being arrested due to the quick change. Jeez, bet the arresting officer hated wasting time on a call like that!
Hi Jeff, well, it doesn't always quite work out even for the skilled. Having observed this practice since-well at least a lot of years, one can't help but notice that it's a learned thing and some are better at it than others. And then as you point out , perhaps they don't care that much. Ah to be that age.
Happens a lot in Hawaii too but not too many people there are alarmed at 'lots of skin.' Me, I'd camp out to grab a peek!
Jeff - I once dated a surfer, and he was a master of quick changes and the art of beach towel positioning.
Jeff - I like the sign, and see that all the time in my neighborhood where people dress and/or undress right along the street with a towel.
Surfers gotta do what they gotta do. It just goes with the territory.
