Carlsbad Real Estate News and Views: A Video Tour on the Historic Coast Highway 101 Through Leucadia (Encinitas) California

Here's the REAL scoop on living in Carlsbad ~ beaches, things to do, places to eat, community events, and of course neighborhoods, homes and the Carlsbad real estate market in general, including surrounding communities like Encinitas, Cardiff, San Marcos, Oceanside, Solana Beach and Del Mar.

Leucadia is a funky, laid-back beach town just south of Carlsbad on the North San Diego County coast, and one of my favorite communities.

Shops along Route 101 in Leucadia CaliforniaLeucadia has a long surfing history, and as a seaside community retains much of the feel from days gone by - which most people like about the community.

This town is part of Encinitas but with a different feel and look. You won't find high end shopping here, nor 5 star dining (but check out Le Papagayo and Auggie's House of Crab for great eating and atmosphere), and folks like it that way just fine.

Despite the funkiness, and the presence of tattoo parlors, surf shops, trailer parks, lots of apartments and vacation rentals, Leucadia is not inexpensive, being located along the beach. Many homes and condos are within walking distance to the beach, and while you can buy mobile and manufactured homes for under $100,000, you can easily spend $3 to $8 million for a bluff top/ocean front home just a block or two away.

Enjoy the video tour down the historic Route 1010 coast highway through Leucadia. Unfortunately it was not a bright sunny Southern California day, but you get the idea. If you would like more information about the area, including Leucadia real estate, please let me know.

I get the feeling from your comments and the view this is what California was like in the 60's and 70's and they don't want to change.

Hi Jeff ~ Long live funky! So nice to see an area without a lot of chain stores. Great video - you really give the feel of Leucadia.

Soo, "Leucadia is a funky, laid-back beach town"?  Seems to me like you have an abundance of funky little laid-back places near you  =)  Everything sounds... and looks so cool all the time!

Jeff, I have to hand it to you, while most people are doing last minute shopping or wrapping up gifts, you are taking a video for a blog.  Now that is dedication :) :) :)

Do you think that there are more surf shops or yoga studios in Leucadia? I notice that you are just a millimeter away from 700k points. Wow!

Terry - well I wasn't living here then but that is the impression I have.

Liz - thanks. And that is wat I, and others, like about Leucadia,

Lisa - I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment. We have upscale, too.

GEorge - well I was out running holiday errands so it made sense to double up. :)

Melissa - good point. There are MORE yoga studios I think.
