This buiding has fascinated me from the first time I saw it when out showing property in San Diego. I had been by it 3 or 4 times but there was never a good time to stop and snap a pic since I had clients following me.
Today was the day...and I drove out of my way as I headed home to snare the photo.
This is the Tower Building - it houses the Tower Tattoo Parlor (which is actually a restaurant and a tattoo joint)
AND The Tower Bar.
Turns out The Tower Bar is pretty popular - check out the Yelp reviews. They have a website but I couldn't get it to load. In any case this building is certainly one of the more unusual in the area.
They are located at 4757 University Avenue in San Diego.

Very interesting building. Glad you went out of your way and took the time to photograph and share this one with us.
A restaurant and a tattoo joint...seems like an odd mix. Uh, waiter, I'll have a BLT, hold the mayo, and MOM tattooed onto my left shoulder!!!
Craig - ha ha. Well I guess you can save time by multi-tasking.
Jeff
Jeff that building looks like something out of the 60's.
However, somehow it looks very appropriate for a Tattoo Parlor.
Someone decided to get very artistic with that building. And it looks like they had fun too!
Hi Jeff,
Interesting, as many times as I've been to beautiful S.D. I've never seen this place or even heard of it before.

I love it. No hiding the image. Just put it out there and invite folks to enjoy.
very cool building Jeff - we do not see things like that here in south carolina - thanks for posting
Jeff~
What a shot. Next time I'm in San Diego, I am going to stop by...NOT for a tatoo, though.
Jeff, That's what I love about CA! There's so much creativity around!! Next time I'm in SD I'll stop - but just for lunch. No ink on this lady... now my son... that's a different story!
What a cool building I wonder if they could get a building permit to rebuild.
Hi Jeff ~ That is just the coolest! And a tatoo parlor / restaurant - perfect! What on earth is its history?
Liz
Jeff - If I wanted a tattoo, that is just the kind of place I'd choose for it! What a great picture & Liz has made me wonder about its history too.
Oh how cool !
And how brightly appropriate for a tattoo parlor !!
Jeff, tht is one of the most colorful buildings I've ever seen! The shape is also unusual; it makes me think of children's building blocks.
Do you think that there could be any future permit issues? It sure is a curious building.
Jeff that really is an interesting looking building. It looks so out of place though.
Hi Jeff, I like this building, it looks like it would make a really good drive thru coffee place.
