A Visit to the Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch Park in Carlsbad California
Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch Park offers visitors a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a bit of history and beautiful lush grounds in the midst of a master planned community in Carlsbad CA.
The Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch Park is a small portion of the original 2300+ acre ranch owned by TV screen star Leo Carrillo, the majority of which is now the master planned community of Ranch Carrillo built earlier this decade a couple miles east of Palomar Airport Road.
A drive down the hill past the Ranch Carrillo Swim Center into this historic park is a visual treat, with original trees and plantings, wild peacocks, and a number of historic buildings including the original hacienda built by Carrillo as a place to escape from Hollywood.
You can walk around on your own every day except Mondays and a few holidays, or take a 1-hour tour to learn about the history and development of the Leo Carrillo Ranch.
The park is a popular site for weddings (they are booked into 2112) and there are free outdoor movies in the summer.
Carlsbad is indeed fortunate to have preserved this bit of Southern California history, and the park is now a California Historical Site.
If you are ever in the area the Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch Park is well worth a visit.
Enjoy the photo tour.

Hi Jeff, I had never heard of this site before but it would be fun to take it in. I have a new Buyer for Carlsbad and soon we will be out looking for homes in Carlsbad. I have to sell the old place first here in SD so it might be a while before I get there. I pulled up the site and saved it on my links bar with a star beside it so I am sure to get there.
I've been here, also, Jeff, and loved it. Great work on this post. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Jeff, I just have to tell you that your photos are so much nicer than their site photos. I think you inspire a visit and I can't say the same for their site.
Looks like a great place Jeff, we have some historic parks/museums like this as well and its always a fun place to take guests. We don't have haciendas and palm trees though :)
Jeff..You have me California dreaming ..Still waiting for Spring ..Looks like a Great place to visit
