Gearing Up for the Surf Dog Surf-a-Thon at Dog Beach in Del Mar CA
Folks, and canines, are gearing up for the SURF DOG SURF-A-THON being held this coming Sunday, September 11, Sunday September 25th at Dog Beach (a.k.a. North Beach) in Del Mar, CA. (Note - due to the massive power outage yesterday in San Diego they JUST rescheduled from Sept. 11 to the 25th).

This heart warming event, being held on a particularly momentous day, raises funds to support the Helen Woodward Animal Center, as well as provide education and awareness about pet ownership and responsibility.
Never saw a dog surf before? Well this is your chance to see lots of canine surfers dressed in their finest surfing gear, or bare naked!
There will be lots of fun, plenty of vendors, great food, and of course spectacular beach weather.
Dog Beach is located on the Coast Road/Route 101 at the north end of Del Mar just past the Via de la Valle intersection in Solana Beach. Parking is NOT free and it is limited so expect to park a bit of a distance and walk. But who cares!

Want to LIVE near this terrific beach? Well, you can, at the Del Mar Beach Colony just to the south. Gorgeous ocean views can be yours but it's NOT for the faint of budget, given that a number of homes have direct beach frontage.

Hey, that sounds like it would be fun to watch! And a power outage wouldn't even affect the event! :0)
Hi Jeff. When clicking on the link, I see this event has been rescheduled for Sept. 25th! (I guess the power outage did affect it!)
Thanks, Steve. They JUST posted the change - it was not there 30 minutes ago. I made changes above.
Jeff
Jeff, That sounds like a blast to watch! And for a good cause to boot.
Did you survie the power outage? No blogging for several hours forced me to actually relate to others. WHat a fun event!
BLiz - surfin' dogs are pretty fun to watch. THis is such a great benefit.
Melissa - yeah, it was pretty weird. We cooked the entire dinner (as we often do) on the grill and enjoyed dinner on the patio by candlelight. I was able to do some computer work but then the battery died. It was nice, in a way to have the whole evening off the laptop.

Hi Jef, Someone has a Bulldog that surfs and I would imagine he might have even been a champion of this event at one point. Sounds like a really fun day on the beach. Watch out for anything with steam coming out of it, LOL.
Jeff I have never seen a dog surf, but I bet you they do it a whole lot better than me :)
Oh that has to be a fun event, Jeff. I have seen some pieces on surfer dogs lately. Amazing. There is even on who sits on boards of people with handicaps to balance their boards.
So glad the lights are all back on in your little neck of the woods beach! That sounds like a really fun event Jeff. Are you going to post some photo's of the event afterward? That would be fun (for us).
Jeff
Cool event and for a very good cause. I think my dog Lars could get Narley.
