Why I Like Living in Carlsbad CA
It’s easy for me to help buyers who are moving to Carlsbad, because I know the community well.
But I also really like living in Carlsbad so it’s easy to be enthusiastic about all the great reasons to live here.
So that, in many ways, is at the basis of how I choose what to write about - to share what I love, the things I enjoy doing, and what I think others will find interesting. If you were considering moving to Carlsbad, woudn't you want to know why people enjoy living there?
When I relocated from Boston to the West Coast we had lots of choices of where to live in coastal San Digeo, and after a bit of seaching we chose Carlsbad. So here are some of my reasons why I like living in Carlsbad.

WEATHER
What else can I say about the weather except that it’s great – not too hot and not too cold. They don’t calling living here “paradise” for nothing. Yes, it will get into the 40s at night in the winter but you will get days of temps in the 60s or even 70s. And in the summer it’s rare to get over 80 except when the Santa Anna winds blow.
EDUCATION
There are 3 school districts for children living in Carlsbad depending on where you live. School rankings are high in general (check out SchoolDigger.com) with a number of award-winning schools – Carlsbad Unified School District, Encinitas Union/San Dieguito Union, and San Marcos Unified School District.
DINING
There are numerous dining options in Carlsbad varying from budget and fast food to upscale/high end restaurants, with a broad range of food types, and places with some great views.
THINGS TO SEE AND DO
You won’t run out of things to do and see in Carlsbad. We have 7 miles of great beaches so you can enjoy all that beach life has to offer – surfing, boogie boarding, kite flying, swimming, sunning yourself and al fresco dining. There are multiple arts and crafts fairs, golf, world-famous Legoland, the Flower Fields, the Museum of Making Music, 2 terrific libraries, the city-owned Cannon Art Gallery with multiple exhibits throughout the year, the free TGIF Jazz in the Parks 9-concert series in the summer, plentiful shopping, multiple art galleries, and the list goes on.
PROXIMITY
Carlsbad is on the coast with a major north-south freeway providing access to San Diego (30 – 45 minutes) and Los Angeles (abut 2 hours). You can get to the California desert cities in about 2 – 2.5 hours, to Mammoth and Big Bear in less than 4 hours, and to Las Vegas in about 5 hours.
TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS
Car (with plenty of good commuting routes including easy access to the 5, 15 and 78 freeways); the Coaster commuter rail running between Oceanside and San Diego with 2 stops in Carlsbad; the Breeze, a public bus system; Amtrak (The Surfliner) to Los Angeles (the stop is in Oceanside). And of course you have your feet, surfboards, skateboards, in-line skates, bikes and even some horses.
AND OF COURSE HOUSING
There is a wide range of housing in Carlsbad to suit every taste and budget, from bungalows to condos to oceanfront estates, with prices ranging from about $110,000 for a small 2-bedroom condo to $29,000,000 for a gorgeous oceanfront home. Whether you want a primary home, a vacation home, or a rental property, you are sure to find it here in Carlsbad, our paradise by the sea in Southern California.

Hi Jeff...When you live and work in a beautiful spot like Carlsbad, CA it has to be a pleasure. Everyone should be so fortunate.
Kate
Jeff - I like your Carlsbad profile, especially about the weather there! Is it true, it doesn't get too humid, even when warmer?
Hi Jeff ,
Carlsbad Calif is truly a great place to live and work !!! The location is also fabulous
Hi Jeff~I love MN, but if we're not going to get any snow then I might as well be in.....well CA.
Have a great evening.
Jeff you almost have me convinced to move their :) :) :)
Great job on the blog!!!
Looks like a great place to live Jeff. I love the slide show you created to show case the beutiful place you live.
Kate - how nice of you to say so. But I suspect many here feel equally positive about the places they live. But I'll admit to being a tad bit biased.
Wendy - yes, it's true. I lived in Washington DC for a few years and Boston for 20. THOSE are humid places, esp. DC. People living here in SoCal have no idea what humidity is really like, and when we do get a bit of it we find it doesn't last very long. Humidity in DC was endless. Florida, too, as I recall, at times.
Jeff
Jeff love this post, this can apply to where I live. What is the old saying copying is the highest form of flattery, I must write a post similar to this:))! BTW I agree with you about the humidity, coming to LA via Boston, NY & CT I do not want to feel that as a steady diet!
That area of California is one of my favorite places on earth...many years ago, I think I stayed at Carlsbad Inn...don't know if it still exists, but just fell in love with that area! Lucky you!
Jeff ~ A great presentation.. in fact, I am getting ready to pack my bags! We are supposed to have 10 inches of snow on Thurs. Not sure I'm ready for that!
I'm with Joan and ready to book my flight!
Excellent post, Jeff....
Hi Jeff, I feel the same way about my town. It's sort of the Carlsbad of the mountains!
Feels so great to love where you live. Makes it that much easier to help folks make a home for themselves.
Nice presentaion on your post!
Hi Jeff, This is very nicely done and should be used as a link in your e-mail as well as your website. I think you will do well with this because I think it so improves your status with clients and referrals knowing that you love living there.
Jeff, you had me with the weather! We had a bit of snow today! It is sort of fun. But messy.
Jeff, you covered some very valid reasons to live in Carlsbad. I especially like the video. After looking at that who could pass up such a place?
Jeff I would have guessed you like livingi in Carlsbad because the Karadasian's live there. LOL.
So does my Cousin... lovely place in the world to live.
Great title.
Jeff = Very nice presentation of Carlsbad. I can see why you moved there. Looks heavenly. Nice job on the feature.
Hi Jeff - what a great post about living and loving Carlsbad - and I really like the video as well! Awesome!
These are some great reasons for loving life in Carlsbad, Jeff. You know and love your area which makes you of extreme value to your clients. And I love the video.
Top 3 reasons are: beach, sunset, and beach. :)
Jeff, Pretty good line up of reasons for Carlsbad living! I know staying close to the beach is fantastic for controlling the weather....head inland and that thermometer seems to rapidly climb. Your poor weathermen out there must get so bored! :)
Jeff, you present Carlsbad so well all the time...well deserved feature...hmm, the warmth is so appealing!
Jeff, sounds like Carlsbad, CA is a great place to settle down. Nice weather! Very nice video of the area!
Robert - you won't get any arguments from me
Michael - I lived in MN for 2 years a long time ago and liked it alot. BUt I have to say the cold got a bit tedious. How about a winter home on the Left Coast?
George - well I keep working on you. Sooner or later you will cave in . LOL
Rich - thanks. I like Animoto a lot.
Jeff
Jeff...this makes you the go to guy for the area...the passion and support for where we live and play is important when communicating in regards to Real Estate to others...
Jeff - Love it! I've had a similar idea rolling around in my head and I think it's great to read exactly why you love Carlsbad so much.
Hi Jeff, great localism post with a lot of information. And what's not to like about Carlsbad? Great place!
Everytime I am in Carlsbad, I am envious of the weather. I only have one problem - that I don't visit often enough!
Great blog selling your area. I must admit I knew little about your area and reading your blog makes me want to know more. Thanks for sharing.
Gretchen
Endre - what a nice compliment. And you're right about the humidity. I have to chuckle when people here complain.
Susan - I DO consider myself lucky. And yes, the Carlsbad Inn is still there. I think they went through a major renovation and it is a popular place to stay in a great location - walk to everything and on the bluff overlooking the beach
Joan - oohhh, I feel for you. I would definitely not be looking forward to that. Time to head South or West
Kerry -the weather is great here at the moment! Chilly at night, however.
Thanks, William. Those are great ideas and I have some of my own.
Pat - well I no longer ever describe snow as fun. LOL
Tammie - I use it for relocation clients for that very reason
Susan - LOL. Are you sure it's not LA?
Bob and Lisa - I feel fortunate to have discovered it. We were not initially looking at Carlsbad as a place to live.
Sharon - I am creating similar ones for other communities I service and for particular neighborhoods.
Jane - I certainly enjoy learning all that I can, and experiencing it for myself.
Jeff
Jeff - This is a great post pointing out why Carlsbad is such a wonderful place to live.
Jeff - love the video. What did you use to create it in?
Great job on the post and video. Can't think of a reason not to live in Carlsbad.
Hi Jeff,
Great local post! I have friends down your way & it's just beautiful! Carlsbad would definitely be on my list, if I ever planned on moving out of Orange County.
Looks like an Animoto video? I just love them- they make life so much easier! ; )
Have a great rest of the week & sunny California weekend!
