Carlsbad Real Estate News and Views: Fall in San Elijo Hills, San Marcos, California

Here's the REAL scoop on living in Carlsbad ~ beaches, things to do, places to eat, community events, and of course neighborhoods, homes and the Carlsbad real estate market in general, including surrounding communities like Encinitas, Cardiff, San Marcos, Oceanside, Solana Beach and Del Mar.

Fall in San Elijo Hills, San Marcos, California

I have had lots of folks visit the posts I wrote about the master planned community of San Eljio Hills in San Marcos, including the most upscale neighborhood under construction (the highest point in the community).

Just off the square in San Elijo HillsSan Elijo Hills has received a lot of attention...not surprising given the location (fabulous coastal views from the highest point in North County), the design of the community, the diversity of home styles and prices, and much more.

I have also had a bunch of inquiries from interested buyers - not surprising given what this community has to offer. A downtown area reminiscent of a New England Village, the town center with fountain and park, two new schools, athletic facilities including a terrific ball field, and much more.

The Albertsons is under constructionand there are plans for other retail establishments. And there is a new cafe - I don't recall the name of the former one, but now you have Isabelle Briens' French Pastry Cafe, right on the town square.

In-town San Elijo HillsAs a former New Englander, I had a soft spot for fall - the changing leaf colors, the shift in the air - and San Elijo Hills, for me, reminded me of the fall days in Boston. The colors of the trees along the streets are vibrant right now and the community has a very pleasant, welcoming feel to it.

I spent some time there today looking at property and wanted to share my photos of "fall in San Elijo Hills." I hope you enjoy it.

And look for my upcoming post on the housing, with an up to date summary of resale and new construction homes.

If I can help you in any way with selling your San Elijo Hills home, or acquiring a home there, please let me know.

Jeff D. ..... looks pretty and peaceful.  I didn't know that you could have fall in your neck of the woods. I guess it does bring back those fond memories when you did live in the NE area...

Jeff, you really do have a change of seasons in Southern California! I'm impressed...those trees are very nice!

Jeff, I can imagine how you would miss the fall season in the east.  It is something I really look forward to.  As a child growing up in another country when I saw the pictures of the fall season I thought it was fake;where would you find trees with all those colors.  When I moved here I was happy to be wrong for once.

San Elijo Hills looks delightful.

Jeff,

You know I'm the landscaping expert and the colors are really nice...I guess it's from the change of seasons?

Thank you, thank you.  I love to look at the flora of other areas.  It gives me a "feel" for the area.  And, look at the mountain in the background.  Absolutely charming.

Jeff - I think many people are surprised about the change of seasons here in CA. Yes, it is not as dramatic as elsewhere but very definitely there. San Elijo Hills is especailly nice becuase of the deciduous trees they planted.

Linda - yep, AND we even get people raking leaves into big piles!!! Just like New England but without the snow!!

Thanks, Jennifer. I do miss some of the fall, but not the real cold weather. I'm thrilled to be able to have the color changes and cooler weather here. What is interesting is that there are no palm trees in the heart of town so it really looks like it is somewhere else in the country.

Thanks, Lenn. The big difference here is that many of the mountains are only covered with low brush and chaparal, at least near the coast, and not tall trees. I continue to be surprised at how hilly it actually is here. And I enjoy the contrast of the tropical foliage against the diciduous trees that change color.

Maggie - I'm glad you liked it. I enjoy sharing the photos of this beautiful area I live in, especially for those who have never been here and live in areaas that are so different.

Neal - yep, things change here quite a bit actually. What is especially interesting is the contrast with the year-round greenery and flowers and the "fall-like" trees. It is even quite a bit cooler right now - in the 40s at night!

Jeff, those trees do have a little bit of a New England Fall in them, but you have to come here to get the real experience.

Great pictures though .......... I think that you are the ActiveRain "Picture King"!!!!!!!!!!!!

George - well, I think you are right. We just don;t get the volume effect of many, many trees. THanks for the compliment.

I looked for homes in San Elijo Hills (all sold out) but people said it is hotter and drier there and that we would need to use the A/C more than in Carlsbad.   I couldn't find any web info regarding temperature differences and the sales people weren't about to comment on that.   I am from out of state and ended up buying in Carlsbad.
