Sunday January 14th in Carlsbad CA

New Year’s Eve is just around the corner, and if you are a runner you may very likely be thinking about, or planning on, our famous Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon for 2018.

Probably not something those in many parts of the freezing cold US are considering, but this is a big event here!

The Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon takes place in just 2 weeks, on Sunday January 14 here in Carlsbad California. And this marathon is a qualifying event for the famed Boston Marathon.

Carlsbad marathon runnersThe Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon are hugely popular with world class runners and new runners, along with viewers along the course.

This particular marathon is popular for a couple of reasons - the location, and the course; a big chunk of the Carlsbad marathon and half marathon courses are along our beautiful Carlsbad coastline on historic Route 101/Coast Highway, otherwise known as Carlsbad Boulevard, with spectacular Pacific Ocean views and a gently rolling course with minimal changes in elevation.

You also get to see the Buena Vista Lagoon and charming Carlsbad Village while you run, run.

The marathon and half marathon both start and finish at The Shoppes at Carlsbad (formerly the Westfield Mall) but follow different courses (here are maps of the marathon and of the half marathon).

And here’s another bonus to the Carlsbad marathon - you can run a world class marathon in January and not freeze your body parts!

In addition to the full marathon, there will be a Half Marathon, as well as a Kids Marathon Mile taking place at world-famous Legoland in Carlsbad the day before on Saturday January 13th.

Whether you live here in Carlsbad or are visiting, please be aware there are some significant road closures during the marathon. These start very early Sunday morning, and we will start seeing signs around town as a reminder of the road closures.

The Health and Lifestyle Expo is Friday January 12th from 12 noon until 5 pm at The Shoppes at Carlsbad off El Camino Real in Carlsbad (just south of the 78 freeway) where the marathon and half marathon start and end. The Expo continues on Saturday, race day, from 10 am until 5 pm.

If you haven’t done so already, you can register online here.

Jeff you weather is much better suited for a marathon in January than ours is.  Hope there are lots of participants.

Hi Jeff... so will you be participating in this marathon or just being a spectator?

Posted by Nina Hollander, Your Charlotte/Ballantyne/Waxhaw/Fort Mill Realtor (RE/MAX Executive | Charlotte, NC) about 2 months ago

Jeff,

What a lovely area to host a marathon in, and I am sure there will be quite a crowd on hand to cheer their favorites. A

That is a smart way to get started on a healthy path for 2018. Have a wonderful evening, Jeff.

Morning Jeff.

With the temps being what they are around here in January there will be no running or walking in any form.  BTW, which one will you be in?

Posted by James Dray, Exceptional Agents, Outstanding Results (Fathom Realty AR LLC) about 2 months ago

Jeff Dowler -I miss running in Marathon's. The excitement, the thrill, the Adrenalin rush permeates the air! I wish the best for all the runners and may the community and their families continue to support them always.

Happy New Year to you Jeff and your family too. I wish you all complete success and happiness in 2018.

Hi Nina Hollander  - definitely NOT a runner with my back, and maybe a spectator if we are not in LA that weekend!

It get's to be quite the mob scene insome areas Ron and Alexandra Seigel . If I were a runner I would enjoy this race along the ocean.

Debbie Reynolds  - to you as well. No doubt this will be a popular event as always. It normally sells out

I get that James Dray  - I would be hunkered down indoors for sure. I may watch some if we are in town but that's it.

Hmm, maybe I should run in it?  No way, haha, I am not much of a runner at all, but this is great for those that are!
