Carlsbad Real Estate News and Views: Wordless Wednesday: Snake Danger!!

Here's the REAL scoop on living in Carlsbad ~ beaches, things to do, places to eat, community events, and of course neighborhoods, homes and the Carlsbad real estate market in general, including surrounding communities like Encinitas, Cardiff, San Marcos, Oceanside, Solana Beach and Del Mar.

Wordless Wednesday: Snake Danger!!

Wordless Wednesday: Snake Danger!!

I think this sign says all that needs to be said. This was at the entrance to open space (not public use space) on a cul-de-sac in an upscale Carlsbad neighborhood when I was out looking at property last weekend.

snake danger

We often see reminders and read about snake sightings online, on Nextdoor, and in signage, about the dangers - especially rattlesnakes in the summer - primarily in the open space where many hiking trails are found. You may not run across one, but you know they are around, so it always pays to be on the look-out!

That sign would keep my sife totally out of the neighborhood

Yesterday I read an interesting article about rattle snake bites in California, Jeff. The county with the most bites per million residents is up in the Mother Lode, near Hetch Hetchy. Years ago when my brother and I were planning a variety of backpacking trips, I kept nixing that area, beautiful as it is, because of rattlers.

I just don't need that!

Hi Lottie Kendall

Well I certainly get that!

I have only seen 1 rattler since we moved here 13 years ago. While we hear reports I haven't, thankfully, heard much about bites. But it certainly pays to be wary and watchful!

Well I have a client who I believe would be rather turned off by this, too!

Morning Jeff.

I fear no man alive on the planet, snakes on the other hand, is a whole different story.  Regardless of what a great deal would be, that sign would kill the deal

Good morning Jeff Dowler, CRS,

I'm not a lover of snakes let along rattlers! I stepped on one one day when I was growing up and I still remember!! Screamed my lungs out and ran!

I can't even stand looking at pictures of snakes, Jeff. This sign made my blood run cold I'm so frightened of them.

Jeff, a 2 headed copperhead was just found here recently and they're apparently very rare. Your post made me think of it because the photo has been circulating. I don't mind snakes but, would sure steer clear or rattlesnakes, no trespassing for sure!

Good morning Jeff. I do not like snakes and that may be an understatement. Never seen a sign like that! Wow! Enjoy your day!

Hi Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®,CRS,

No doubt many people already are aware but it doesn't hurt to remind them.

I am NOT a fan of snakes either, James Dray . I suspect there are others who woult be uneasy about buying a home next to this area (the house for sale was several houses away).

Hi Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR

Yikes that would have scared the heck out of me! Probably even more so as an adult! I know they are around but I try not to think about it, and I am super vigilant when I go walking on any trails.

Hi Amanda S. Davidson

I heard something on the news about a 2-headed copperhead being found. That's VERY creepy.

Hi Jeff- we were talking about snakes just this morning at breakfast. When we were at our hunting lease many years ago, Larry had to carry snake shot in his side arm.

I can handle spiders but snakes are just too much for me, a true phobia.

Hi Wayne Martin  - They certainly want to make sure you are aware they are around. You can't miss that sign. Maybe they are a particular problem there, or the HOA is being extra careful.

Ugh. Good thing it went the other way. I had a snake in the yard at a showing although it was not, thankfully, a rattlesnake! But the buyer was not happy and wanted to know if there were more around.

We have rattlesnakes in Central Oregon, but I cannot say I have ever seen such a sign before, Jeff Dowler, CRS !
