Carlsbad Real Estate News and Views: Jeune et Jolie in Carlsbad Village – A New Favorite Restaurant

Here's the REAL scoop on living in Carlsbad ~ beaches, things to do, places to eat, community events, and of course neighborhoods, homes and the Carlsbad real estate market in general, including surrounding communities like Encinitas, Cardiff, San Marcos, Oceanside, Solana Beach and Del Mar.

Jeune et Jolie in Carlsbad Village – A New Favorite Restaurant

Jeune et Jolie

A New Favorite Restaurant in Carlsbad Village

Carlsbad has added a number of restaurants in the last couple of years. I have yet to try them all, but my dining experience last night at Jeune et Jolie that opened this past December could become a new favorite.

Jeune et Jolie, billed as a “modern French Bistro,” was created by the owners of Campfire, a popular eatery right down the street, also in the hip and artsy North State area, that opened in 2016.

It’s worth noting that Campfire has been quite successful and just received a “Bib Gourmand” rating from Michelin along with 7 other San Diego restaurants – not quite the star category but a rating reserved for special restaurants offering “high-quality meals with 2 courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less.”

I’ve been to Campfire a couple times for lunch and once for dining and it was quite good, with some rather unique and creative offerings. Campfire is well worth a visit if you haven’t been.

Will Jeune et Jolie be similarly awarded, or perhaps receive that coveted Michelin star rating? Maybe!

I was certainly very impressed with the food, the prices, excellent service, and charming ambiance, all of which makes we want to return soon and try other food. Last night they offered a prix fixe dinner (L’Ordinaire) with 2 courses plus dessert for $35 (wine pairing of 3 wines was only $15). It was superb and plenty of food!

You can, of course, simply order off the main menu or go for the Chef’s Tasting.

I always enjoy discovering new restaurants and sharing them, or learning about great eateries from clients and friends, in and around Carlsbad. We are not San Francisco or LA as far as restaurants go, but things continue to improve with our dining scene. And being a bit of a foodie, well that’s just fine with me.

I certainly look forward to a return dining experience at Jeune et Jolie!

I love the name, and I understand from my reading that Jeune and Jolie are "variations" of the middle names of the daughters (Elsie June and Margot Jolie) of the owner and the chef respectively. The prices on the main menu were upscale but still reasonable. Given the quality of the food, it was a terrific value!

Hi Beth Atalay

It really was a great experience and the salad was extra special. I'm looking forward to many more meals there, and it's barely 15 minutes away!

Hi Endre Barath, Jr.

You will do an admirable job

Tomato, hard boiled egg (but not TOO), lettuce, green olives, light green beans, vinaigrette, medium rare Ahi, several chunks of potato - I think that was it, but you could improvise! Let us know how it goes!

Hi Sally K. & David L. Hanson  - my kind of dining!

The food was all beautifully presented, but of course was delicious, too!

Hi Nina Hollander

It IS a neat building, and I really liked how the interior was done. The designer did a great job - should have taken more photos!

Hi Jeff - like Ron and Alexandra Seigel said those are very reasonable. French cuisine is always a delectable experience.

Hi Joe Pryor

Sounds like you are in the know about the French places that meet your criteria when you travel or visit your second home.

Have a good weekend!

Hi Grant Schneider

It's certainly a pleasure to visit a French restaurant that knows what they are doing, and does it well. It made me want to return to Paris!

Hi Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD  - I am ready for a return visit. French cuisine is one of my faves, and if you can't get to Paris, this will be a decent substitute!

I thought so too George Souto

We have a couple French-style bakeries, but it's nice to have another French restaurant, joining Paon, in our little town.
