Wordless Wednesday:  Just Hangin' Out

Ground Squirrel on the bushes

We live adjacent to a small canyon which means a fair amount of wildlife, some of which visits the yard from time to time.

I was looking out the rear window over the patio the other morning and spied this ground squirrel hangin' out. He was perched on his haunches, on top of the bushes, taking in the scenery...and perhaps keeping an eye out for predators, like the coyote we have been seeing regularly. Better this squirrel stays where he is instead of raiding our birdfeeders or digging in the gardens!

What a cutie that ground squirrel is.  We don't have that variety here in my area.  We have grey squirrels with big bushy tails, and brown squirrels.

Morning Jeff.

What a handsome little fellow.  Hope he/she found something to eat, without being eaten

I like seeing the squirrels since I know they will not likely harm me, haha.  You got a great photo of this one!

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS -  I love all kinds of wildlife so I appreciate your post a lot.  I told my husband we should have a camera put in so we can see the wildlife at night.  He is not sure he wants to know what is out there at night! Ha Ha!  Currently, we have at least 1 raccoon that drinks from our fountain.  All we see are muddy paw prints on our wall!

Nice photo capture, Jeff. I love the little fellow's very good posture!

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat  There are ground squirrels everywhere, especially over at the beaches on the bluffs. They can be pretty destructive with their digging but entertaining to watch...except when raiding the birdfeeders!

Thanks Michael Jacobs  It turned out pretty well considering the squirrel was at least 50 feet away.

They are pretty skittish, which is a good thing Brian England

Cute critter! We live adjacent to Sorrento's canyons and on a very rustic hillside from those canyons. We get rabbits daily, owls, coyote, occasional deer and snakes. Yet, live 3 blocks from two major hotels and a shopping mall...gotta love San Diego!
