Beach in Paraty BrazilBeach in Paraty, Brazil - a Portuguese Colonial Town Popular for Surfing

We have been avid fans of jazz for quite some time, and Brazilian jazz became a favorite of ours when our younger daughter spent 18 months in Sao Paulo in the early part of this millenium as part of her college degree. We have enjoyed it ever since, including the annual Brazilian Jazz Festa concerts here in San Diego every year since 2008, as well as occasional Brazilian bands at the TGIF Concerts during the summer in Carlsbad!

For us, there is something magical, and relaxing, about the melodies and the rhythms (e.g, samba, bossa nova) unique to Brazil, with such notable artists as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Astrid Gilberto, Joao Gilberto, Sergio Mendes, Bebel Gilberto, Flora Purim, Eliane Elias, Chico Pineiro, Milton Nascimento, and the list goes on and on. When I hear Brazilian jazz I think immediately of beach life!! It was very popular music in St. Martin when we used to visit when we lived in Boston, and we often played it at our beach house on Cape Cod.

Who doesn't know "Garota de Ipanema" (The Girl from Ipanema)?!

We've had the good fortune to hear several well-known Brazlian musicians and singers live at concerts over the years in Boston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, as well as to enjoy live music while spending 8 days in Sao Paulo - truly an amazing city in many ways.

I was enjoying a grilled dinner tonight (home alone all week) and had a Brazilian Pandora station playing on the Bose for hours, and the memories of many years of enjoying Brazilian music just flowed.  What can I say!?

Enjoy this video of a truly talented Brazilian pianist, composer, and singer...Eliane Elias! We saw her live in San Francisco, CA at Yoshi's with our table right by the stage - amazing!

Hope all is well!

It's amazing that the beautiful beach you photographed in Brazil does not have any people on it. Every Brazilian beach picture I have seen shows very crowded beaches. This one is lovely!

I’d like to head out around there after pandemic times come to a halt in the near future, hopefully.

It was a relatively small beach and we were there early in the morning...nothing like you typically see in Rio.

Good morning Jeff Dowler, CRS - it is great music to have on at home as you are working.

I agree about the music, Jeff... love it myself. Your post brought back lovely memories of a trip my husband I made to Rio many years ago (30+) now. It is beautiful city.

Good morning Jeff. Have been to Sao Paulo on business. The things I remember are the music and a visit to a Brazilian Steakhouse. Simply amazing and the coffee was over the top!

Hello Jeff - I have not yet visited Brazil but appreciate the trip down memory lane that highlights many reasons why a visit there would be a real treat.

Wow, that is quite a wonderful memory indeed.  I could see myself living in a hut on that beach, haha.

What a lovely post on Brazilian beaches. I do love all the musicians you mentioned, and we have an album of it.  This is also great driving music.  We visited Brazil many moons ago and enjoyed it from Rio to Sao Paolo.  One of the guys that works at Trader Joes is from Brazil, and he taught us a few Portuguese words.  Happy rest of the week.  A
