Yesterday was an amazing weather day here in Carlsbad. January 10, several weeks into winter, and it was 75 degrees. My kind of weather.
The reason for the heat is a mixed blessing. The Santa Anas from inland were kicking up, with some substantial gusts of wind in some communities (I heard close to 80 mph in some inland canyon areas), the haze from the previous day was gone, and it was a spectacular clear sunny day, with droves of people enjoying the summer-like day. The surfers were out in abundance - I captured some in these photos climbing down the high bluffs just south of Carlsbad Village heading for the waves.

The downside, of course, is the high forest fire threat these winds create because of the extreme heat, dryness, and the winds which can blow a fire out of control in seconds. These winds were the source of the disastrous fires in Northern California last year (at Big Sur and nearby) and the year before in San Diego. Hopefully there will be no problems.
Today it is even warmer - 77 degrees now and not even noon yet. Time to go enjoy the outdoors.

Jeff, you're as bad as the Florida bloggers with the great weather posts! And your photos are gorgeous. Rub it in.
That is beautiful Jeff. All I can say is I am really jealous as I look out at a foot of snow!
Patricia - well, I always feel a little guilty, but having spend many years on the East Coast and in New England I figure I can brag a little since I understand what folks are dealing with. :)
Bill - well as you and I discussed the other day, you can have the snow. Spring is only a few months away.
Jeff
I love those shots with the sun shining on the water...we have some nice oceans too.
Beautiful photos - I wish those are my daily scenery and temperature. Thanks for sharing your amazing neighborhood.
We never have any explanation for our wacky winters. It sounds like they're the same as yours. We never know what kind of weather a day will bring.
I love the photos. Both the rocks, and the shoreline are beautiful.
Neal - It WAS a great day to take photos. BUt I remember plenty of gorgeous days at the Florida beaches.
Eileen - I enjoy them pretty well but don;t get over there as much as I would like.
Thanks, Lisa. I am stll getting used to the weather here.
Jeff
I discovered many decades ago that I was a sun bunny. Keep me south of Interstate 10 --Los Angeles to Jacksonville, Florida, and I'm a pretty happy campber.
