Folks who know me know that I have quite a sweet tooth, especially for chocolate. Elizabethan Desserts, in Encinitas, helps to fulfill the need for sweets in many ways. Oh so many ways!
I have been acquainted with pastry chef Elizabeth Harris for several years now since she opened her fabulous Elizabethan Desserts bakery shop at the Sunshine Gardens nursery in Encinitas near Moonlight Beach (just a short hop from Carlsbad). Yes, it is a totally unexpected place to find a sweet shop, but who cares?! You go buy some flowers, and you stop in to buy sweets, or just visit for the sweets.

While I like everything Elizabethan Desserts offers (her dedication to freshness and flavor, the use of organic fruits), there are some top faves - the red Velvet cupcakes are probably my #1 (top photo, seond shelf on the right). They are incredible - and an amazing color, and Elizabeth knows I like these best.
Her Magic Bars are to die for, and the Lemon Squares have the most wonderful fresh lemon flavor. Oh, and the Mississippi Mudpies...I could go on and on.
Elizabeth continues to add goodies to her repertoire, as you can see in the cases in the photos. Her pies at holiday time can, and should, be ordered well in advance, and there are a host of different cakes for birthdays and other celebrations. She will create speciality platters of goodies for your events with advanced notice, too.
Visit her website (and her sweet blog) for more about this terrific dessert place in Encinitas.
Elizabethan Desserts is located at Sunshine Gardens Nursery in the Red Roof Building at 155 Quail Gardens Drive in Encinitas. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 AM until 5 PM. (760) 230-6780

Well, ya got me with this blog. I would make a special trip to Cali for this.
Yum..yum...yum! How cool...buy flowers and desserts at the same time. Love it!
My husband and I had our first date 22 years ago at a restaurant back in the late 80's that overlooked Moonlight beach. May be time we drive on down and visit the bakery and beach for our second date. :)
Hi Jeff - Elizabeth's Deserts looks like another fine business in Encinitas. Don't indulge too much:)
Jeff I think I just gained 10 pounds looking at those pictures. Not nice to tempt me like that :) :)
Melissa - and it is well worth the trip.
Janice - now THAT would be a fun trip. Then you could take your goodies over to the beach (less than a mile) and enjoy that too.
Bill - well I indulge when I can but actually am pertty good about it,except when driving by when I have beenout showing property. :)
George - well imagine how much you would gain if you were eating this

Hi Jeff - those cupcakes look scrumptious! I'm marking this place down as a "must-go" for my next trip there! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Jeff, When we set up that lunch date , splitting a Red Velvet ( I do mean split ) would be nice. I usually don't do deserts much but half I could handle. But our part of the world need places like this. Thanks for sharing.
Tom - heaven on earth is a good way to descirbe this place, at least for a seet tooth like me.
Jennifer - and they are as good as they look. I have tried most of them. :)
William - well I normally like to eat one myself but I would be willing to share.
Jeff
Geesh Jeff D...
You pushed me over the edge. Now I'm going to have to have one of those toasted coconut donuts The Broker brought home. At this rate I'm gonna grow to be as HUGE as Bertha :)
TLW...ROAR!
Cute. She said she was coming in here to put on a few pounds :)
Wow ! -- a real drop of drool just tumbled from the corner of my mouth ...
That place looks SPLENDID !!!!
.... tough job of 'research' you had for this one huh ! ... of course you had to sample the content for your review !!!
Cheers !

Everything looks delicious, I can see why you love to visit such a special bakery. I am fascinated by the red velvet cupcakes since I had never had red velvet cake until I moved to the South. I still think you should write a book or guide to the hidden secrets of the Carlsbad area. You come up with some new gallery or eatery every day!
Jeff - I just gained 20 lbs. looking at this post. If I get to Carlsbad I'll have to stop in. Yummy
